LED Screens – Evolution
LED screens can change entire landscapes – the can bring the forest to the city, create waterfalls in hotel lobbies and let your imagination run wild with endless visual possibilities. No longer are they just used for advertisements in Times Square New York or along the Las Vegas Strip. As technology advances, the size/scope and clarity of the LED walls are reaching a point never seen before. To complement the screens companies like Obscura Digital have mastered the art of creating innovative digital effects. Recently the company was taken over by Madison Square Garden Group https://www.msg.com/. It will be very exciting to see what they create in Las Vegas with the show-stopping MSG sphere a massive circular building with the entire exterior made of curved LED panels.
According to the MSG website -The Madison Square Garden Company is focusing on building state-of-the-art music and entertainment venues known as MSG Sphere. Featuring an iconic design, MSG Sphere venues will revolutionize the live experience, using cutting-edge technologies that enable the creation of immersive, multi-sensory environments that transport audiences and reinvent how a performer, speaker, show or event engages and connects with an audience.
LED Screens – Common Uses
There are very few instances where an LED display unit will not improve a commercial building, indoor or outdoor. Let’s take a look at the most common applications of LED screens that we service here at Smart LED Concepts.
For ease of explanation and understanding, I will divide the screens into the most popular and common usages – although we have installed them into many different places.
1.What is your installation envoirnament?
- Indoor Display
- Outdoor Display
- Semi Outdoor Display
2. What application is the screen going to be used for?
- Commercial fixed installation display
- Event Rental Display
- Sports Banner, Ticker Tape
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of LED display technology it is most important to understand why and what your purpose the screen is to serve. Do want to customize the screen to fit an unusual space and make a statement as the salesforce office did with their lobby screen ( above ) Perhaps you have a local business like our client in Miami- Big Cheeze Pizza https://www.bigcheesemiami.com/. They run a very popular restaurant near the University of Miami, they wished to capitalize on the location and entertain and inform the passing traffic of their offer.
The screen that we installed at Big Cheese is an outdoor all-weather P10 SMD 8ft. * 10ft screen. So what does all of this mean to you? P10 refers to the pixel pitch of the screen, this means that there is 10 mm between each LED diode. To give this some context the nearer you are going to be viewing the LED display the smaller the Pixel Pitch needs to be. When we install stadium screens in and restaurants they can range from a pixel pitch of 2mm to 6mm normally – it really depends on the distance from the screen the viewer will be.
SMD – Surface Mounted Displays. 3 in one LED pixel. This simply means that each diode contains an RGB pixel. The picture clarity is greatly enhanced through this technology. Traditional LED screens had separate diodes Red, Green and Blue
Traditional LED screens had separate diodes Red, Green & Blue. They were effective from long distances to show videos and images. This type of screen is all but obsolete now with the arrival of SMD screens.
Considerations Before Installation
At Smart LED Concepts our dedicated team of licensed and insured low voltage contractors takes great pride in what we do. There are different concerns with regard to LED screens than other types of LED products. One of the bigger hurdles that can stop a lot of projects in their tracks has to do with permitting. Every city has its own rules with regard to outdoor LED screens. Some cities do not allow them at all while neighboring towns can and other places want to ensure that the building that they go on is a certain size. Before you consider putting up an LED wall please check with the town hall first as to the requirements.
Another consideration that most places will require is proper dimming sensors. The opposite is in place with LED screens, they need to be brighter during the day to be seen against the glare of the sun. At night a sensor should automatically dim the screens down so they can be seen but are not a hazard to passing traffic and pedestrians.
- Cut energy consumption up to 80%
- Provide a brighter / higher quality light
- Cut down maintenance Costs
- Expected ROI between (1.5 – 3 years)
- 5 Year Warranty
