Under the counter, lights are a fantastic use of LED light. Very straightforward installation with many different options.
The first question that you need to ask yourself, what look am I trying to achieve with my under the counter lights? Are you simply trying to put functional lights in the right place so you can work safer in an area or are you going for a multi-color party feel to delight and inspire guests?
Under Counter LED Lighting:
LED strip light is adaptable to almost any under the counter lighting needs. It works best if there is a lip or overhang to the feature at eye level or some depth lower down, such as a bar top or a kick area. It creates a beautiful indirect light source that adds to any space. It is low voltage and energy-efficient. Safe and practical and it can really add to the appeal of your home, office or retail space.
Strip LED lights are a perfect and affordable way to create a warm and inviting atmosphere in almost any space you can imagine. Take your home, for example, picture the soft glow from the cabinetry, imagine friends and family gathering around for an evening for fun and festivities. The light that creates a glow is the best light to give a feeling of warmth and homeliness.

All different applications imaginable but under the counter lighting is still one of the most popular and effective uses of this technology. There are many different variations of LED strip light. Brightness and color are some of the most prevalent considerations but they are not the only things to look to. If any of the light is exposed from any angle we would always recommend using a diffuser of some form to shield the diodes ( LED chips ) from the eyes of the occupants.
Are LED Strip Lights the Only Way to do Under Counter Lighting?
I get asked this quite a bit and the answer is a big No. LED strip lights are amazing, versatile, inexpensive and safe put they cannout achieve every look out there. LED strip is fantastic at creating a nice even glow in a number of colors and color temperatures. However what if you are looking to highlighting some features while keeping others in the shadow? LED strip would not be your best option here as it supplies a uniform light effect. Pin LED lights or Puck lights will provide a great alternative or addition to your light options.
Puck LED lights
A Puck light is an oval or round fixture. They are a self-contained light and very slim so they are perfect for under the counter lighting applications. Some installations have the cabinetry done with pre-drilled holes so the puck lights can be flush with the bottom of the counter.
Puck lights are a great addition to your lighting plan, like the LED strip they can come in any color or temperature, easy to control and install and are low voltage. They are great at adding accent lighting to a space, perfect for coves or under the counter lights
Some common uses of LED Puck lights
Under Cabinet
Most common use of puck lights is underneath kitchen/office cabinets. Like LED strip lights they create a soft glow that in unobtrusive, functional and nice looking.
One of the biggest features in the kitchen is the countertop, people go to a lot of trouble picking out the perfect countertop to reflect the personality and feel of the kitchen. General light sources dont reflect most countertops but puck lights can be designed to help your countertop shine in all of its glory.
Reading/Relaxing
Puck lights are ideal for this situation they allow you to create a nook or space where you can sit down gather your thoughts and unwind from the outside world. If you have the space to create this area put a small puck light in and you will have light where you need it and shadows where you don’t.
Landscape
Take advantage of your outdoor space with safety and comfort by using LED puck lights. The unobtrusive nature of puck lights makes them an ideal addition to outdoor living. Summer can be fleeting, take advantage of your patio, read a book and share meals outside with your family.
Bathrooms
Puck lights are often found in bathrooms. As they are ideal for areas that need specific light sources but not all over the place. Hidden in the cabinets. This is especially important in the bathroom, you wake up in the middle of the night to use the toilet, the objective to get up and back to sleep as soon as possible. Bright lights will know you out of your sleep state leaving you with a restless night this will have a knock-on effect to your mornings.

For Dimming -you will want to use a dimmer switch with a magnetic dimmable power supply. You can simply use an on/off switch but a proper dimming system – it does not have to be complicated unless you want to create a nightclub in your kitchen.
