How Smart LED Lights helped this parking garage stand apart.
Hyde beach in North Miami is a great example of what can be done when you need to highlight features through LED technology. The designers involved in this project reached out to Smart LED Concepts to discuss the possibilities of showcasing the unique features on the parking garage.
Led Light Design Features
The features on this building are both subtle and bold and they needed a way to stand apart from the busy Miami skyline. We knew we had a great opportunity to make the parking garage a prominent feature out without being over the top.
Most exterior projects we work on we use a combination of LED wall wash bars, floodlights, and powerful exterior units, because of the budget available this was not an option at Hyde beach as it would have made the install too expansive to get approval. Luckily there is always a solution – weatherproof RGBA IP67 LED tape lights.
As with all of our exterior led lights the need to be able to stand the harsh South Florida conditions and being so close to the ocean causes its own issues, the combination of electronics and saltwater is never a good thing. This is where experience in the installation and high quality LED lighting products come into play.
Design and Install
The designers and builders provided us with coves to hide the tape light but the challenges existed in actually putting it an such a way that it would create that nice LED glow effect without being seen and pushing enough power to ensure consistent light quality. The installation required our technicians to use all their experience and skill to install high off the ground at very awkward angles to create a seamless effect.
All of the lights are controlled by an eight zone controller that our team preprogrammed to the specifications of our clients. This gives the owners complete control of how they want the building to look and different times of the year. Because of the advances in LED technology, we can be extremely sensitive to the environment that we work in. This project is close to the beach in Miami as such we need to be aware of the issues that can pose especially with regard to marine life, in particular, turtle hatching season.

Turtle friendly LED lights
Turtle friendly LED lighting is specifically designed to minimize the ecological impact that traditional lighting can have on turtles and wildlife, especially near oceans and beaches. … LED lighting must be set to a certain (amber) wavelength, must be shielded and of low-wattage. The turtle hatching season goes from May 1 to November 30 each year and any building close to the beach must comply with this. This project would not have been possible without LED technology allowing us to marry design with environmental consciousness.
The Hyde beach parking garage is a perfect example of how LED technology is done right can have such a massive impact on highlighting a buildings’ unique features that may otherwise be overlooked and still be environmentally friendly. Even though there are not a lot of different components involved in this project there is a lot of LED tape needed to get the desired effect. Not all tape, power supplies or drivers are created equal. At Smart LED Concepts we understand this – there needs to be consistency in quality throughout the entire facade after all it’s our work on display in an extremely visible location.
